Festival of Trees Fundraising Up More Than 30 Per Cent
SASKATOON – Festival of Trees announced today that the 2011 event raised $195,000 to support the Saskatchewan MS Clinical Research Chair Campaign at Saskatoon City Hospital. The amount is the highest the Festival has raised in its 26-year history, and exceeded organizers’ expectations by more than 30 per cent.
“Our goal this year was to net $150,000. This $195,000 total feels like Christmas morning; we’re very excited,” said Rick Steffen, Chair of the Festival of Trees. “We’re so grateful to our sponsors and to everyone in the community who came out to support the Festival.”
The 2011 Festival of Trees took place from November 20th – 26th at the Western Development Museum. Steffen says it took about four weeks to close out the event in order to get a final tally of funds raised. He then notified Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Shannon, about the good news.
“I was astonished when I heard the fundraising total,” said Steve.” “I was amazed, elated and finally just so very grateful for the outstanding work by the Festival’s volunteers, sponsors, and media supporters. They put together a wonderful event for so many people to come out and enjoy this year. On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to thank each and every one of them. All played an important role in our MS Chair Campaign which focuses on clinical research to identify the causes, develop new and improved treatments, and ultimately, to find a cure for MS.“
Funds raised were not the only success at the 2011 Festival of Trees. Each of the Festival’s five special events sold out and organizers report that attendance numbers were up from previous years, with a total of 31,000 visitors throughout the week.
“We have over 300 volunteers who work to make the Festival of Trees happen each year. The success of this year’s event belongs to them and is a tribute to their dedication,” said Steffen.
