Saskatoon Hosts 55+ Provincial Games
Saskatoon, SK – June 27, 2012 – Saskatoon Sports Tourism and the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association are delighted to announce the return of the 55+ Provincial Games from July 3 – 5, 2012. Nearly 500 athletes will be competing in 13 events to advance to the Canada 55+ Games in Sydney, Nova Scotia from August 29 – September 1, 2012.
“Since keeping active as we grow older is very important, the 55+ Provincial Games provide many age and skill appropriate opportunities for competition,” says Sheldon Kraus, President of the Saskatoon Sport District of the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association. “We admire the fact that seniors are role models, they are fully engaged and active, and they are truly an inspiration to us all.”
The objective of the 55+ Provincial Gams is to promote active living, wellness and participation of adults 55 years of age and older. The first games were held in Melville in 1988. The provincial games are held every two years and this will be Saskatoon’s first turn as hosts since 1998. Sports range from swimming and golf to shuffleboard and cribbage, insuring a wide variety of participants. Special events to be held at Prairieland Park include opening ceremonies on July 3, banquet on July 4 and closing ceremonies on July 5. A complete schedule of events can be found at www.ssfa.ca and admission to all events is free.
