Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan has Great Season of Heroes and Villains

Published: Aug 27, 2012

Hamlet and As You Like It played to great audiences for the closing performances over the weekend.  The crew is now busy taking the festival down and preparing for 2013’s productions.

Reviews and audience feedback were very favorable for Hamlet and As You Like It at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.  Attendance was good overall, with very strong opening and closing weeks.  Closing week attendance was the second highest in the last five years.  Over 9000 people attended the two mainstage shows on the Stuart Olson Dominion Festival Mainstage.  As You Like It, presented by SaskTel, had approximately 4700 people attend.   Hamlet, presented by PotashCorp, had about 4400 people.  As expected, the comedy drew larger audiences.

Non-ticketed,free events on the PotashCorp Community Stage surged this year, with estimated attendance between four and five thousand.  A great variety of music acts, writers, and short plays created a great ambiance and added to the festival atmosphere.

Artistic Director Mark von Eschen is very happy with the work of all the artists, staff, and volunteers who took part in the festival and wants to thank all of the funders, sponsors, and donors who made the 2012 season of Heroes and Villains a great success.
