Amati Quartet - Guest Artist Bonnie Nicholson – piano

The Amati Quartet is delighted to be joined by one of Saskatoon’s most celebrated pianists, Bonnie Nicholson, in this concert featuring both Hungarian and Hungarian-inspired music. Two of the best examples of European classical and romantic composers who wrote stylized ‘gypsy’ music are Haydn’s Piano Trio nicknamed the ‘Gypsy Rondo’ and the Brahms’ Piano Quartet titled ‘Rondo alla Zingarese’ (in the Gypsy style) . The gypsy flavour adds an exotic scent with wild rustic dances that escalate into a frenzy. The Serende by Dohnányi, who was truly a Hungarian, is a tour de force in the string trio repertoire.
