Amati Quartet - with guest artist Randi Nelson, flute
Flautist, Randi Nelson performing with the Amati Quartet will describe dreams – spontaneous, sensitive, and luxurious - in the serene atmosphere of Foote’s ‘ Night Piece’, a rhapsodic fantasy for flute and strings. Also on the program is the romantic yet minimalist music of contemporary Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich -like a breath of fresh air. Mozetich’s ‘Fantasia on a Lost Language’ weaves the flute into a lush tapestry of lyrical modern sounds in a rich harmonic language.
Mozarts’ sparkling string duo, a work in which Mozart’s love of the viola as well as opera are evident throughout, is a masterpiece which he composed in disguise to help out a fellow composer in need. A charming string trio movement by Schubert serves as an appetizer to the full main course string trio by Beethoven, a work which shocked audiences in the premiere performance with its bold alternatives to standard form and thematic expectations.
