Over the past two years, Donna Bilyk has used images, interviews and artifacts collected from residents of a seniors’ residence as source material for a new body of work. Her ongoing explorations are testaments to the complexity, mutual interdependence and ultimate ambiguity of representational codes. The results are both beautiful and intriguing. As a study in abstraction, her work refers as much to itself and like works, as it does its sources. Bilyk writes: “We live and we die, that much holds true. What happens in between forms our TRACES.”
