First Nations Language Keeper's Conference
The Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre will host
the annual First Nations Language Keepers Conference on November 26th and 27th, 2014 in Saskatoon. This national conference is organized to provide an opportunity for First Nations to share best practices and technological innovations in the revitalization and retention of First Nation languages and cultures.
Our theme this year is Utilizing Technology for Language Preservation. Our goal is to share our successes in the use of technology as well as recognizing the successes of our fellow Language Keepers. We invite presentations that demonstrate the application of traditional and contemporary technologies to:
• Elder’s cultural teachings and protocols.
• Inspiring youth to learn and maintain their language in order to strengthen their First Nations identity.
• Teaching methodologies that integrate language instruction with technology.
• Traditional applications of technology in First Nations society.
We hope to showcase innovations that will contribute to strengthening First Nations language in our communities and beyond. The conference is primarily attended by educators, language instructors, Elders, linguists, storytellers and knowledge keepers within First Nations communities.
