We're celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by bringing one of Saskatchewan's most loved authors, W.O. Mitchell, to our stage! When Ma, the Kid (her twelve-year-old son), and Jake (the hired man), first appeared on CBC Radio in 1950, the lively boy and his cranky hero found their way into the hearts of thousands of Canadians.
The imaginary town of Crocus in 1944 comes alive with an entire community of eccentric characters. There's Jake and his friend and rival, old man Gatenby, who seems to be in a constant contest to come up with the most outrageous tall tale. Consequently, the history lessons that the Kid learns from them get him in trouble at school with Miss Henchbaw.

Then there comes Clinton Godfrey, Gatenby's soon-to-be son-in-law, who has come to Crocus on a grant to collect tall tales from Saskatchewan's best 'liars', only Gate isn't so particular about being called a 'liar', and things begin to unravel in the most hilarious way.

Touching and laugh-out loud funny in equal measure, "Jake and the Kid" shows the magic of W.O. Mitchell's Storytelling.
