CANADIAN ABORIGINAL MUSIC AWARDS: SASKATCHEWAN ARTISTS RECEIVE EIGHT NOMINATIONS

SaskMusic is pleased to congratulate this year’s Saskatchewan nominees for Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, receiving recognition in 8 of the 17 categories overall.

Prince Albert’s Donny Parenteau leads the pack of nominees with an impressive seven nods, in the categories of Best Album of The Year, Best Country Album, Best Producer/Engineer (Donny Parenteau and Harry Stinson), Best Song Single, Best Songwriter, Best Male Artist and Best Music Video, all for work on his recent album “To Whom It May Concern”.

Jason Chamakese of Leoville, Sask., received a nomination in the category of Best Traditional Flute for his latest album, “Native American Flute Songs Vol. 2”.

Parenteau is currently also nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Songwriter(s) of the Year for “Play On”, with those awards being handed out this weekend in Whitehorse YK. Chamakese was recently nominated for Flutist of the Year at the Native American Music Awards, for the above-noted album.

Donny and Jason are also nominated for Aboriginal Peoples’ Choice Music Awards, being handed out November 3-4 in Winnipeg, for Aboriginal Male Entertainer of the Year and Best Country CD (Donny Parenteau) and Best Flute CD (Jason Chamakese).

The 13th annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards will be held in conjunction with the Canadian Aboriginal Festival, November 17-20, 2011 in Toronto ON. The CAMAs will be handed out at a gala event on November 18 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, featuring performances by some of the best Aboriginal musicians from across Canada and the USA.
