Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company announces first annual ARTS Fundraiser

Published: May 15, 2012

Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company invites you to attend the first annual ARTS Fundraiser to be held at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market on May 25th, 2012. Doors open at 6 pm with an organic meal featuring Bison stew to be served at 7 pm. There will be a silent and live auction, draws and door prizes. Tickets for the event are $50 and also include a $10 voting membership with the organization. Guests will be entertained by Circle of Voices (COV) alumni, and hear how this important program has changed their lives.

The live auction will feature three pieces from noteworthy local artists: Kevin Pee-ace (Painting, 2004), Adrian Roy McKenzie (Painting, 2008) and Willard Ahenakew (Colored Pencil, circa. 1954-1960). This is a very early Willard Ahenakew piece created when he was still in high school! SNTC is anticipating the excitement that this art piece will generate.

This fundraiser will be an important opportunity for supporters to meet our new staff and Board Members and hear important announcements of the following:

Season Announcement

SNTC will be announcing the 2012/2013 Season. Season plans include four professional productions along with the three SNTC core programs: the Performers’ Playhouse Summer Drama Camp, the 2nd annual Discovery Festival in partnership with our colleagues at La Troupe du Jour, and a return of the Circle of Voices program.

Circle of Voices (COV)

SNTC is excited to announce a return of their 4 month intensive theatre training program for at-risk youth. 10 to 15 youth will work together with cultural leaders, professional theatre artists and a professional playwright to develop a one hour play. The youth are responsible for all aspects of the play, including acting, stage managing, lighting, and construction of sets and props. The play will have a Saskatoon production run and tour of small Saskatchewan communities. The COV was SNTC’s founding program when the company began in 1999. It has a high success rate, raising youth’s self-esteem and encouraging them to pursue their hopes and dreams.

Sponsors

SNTC will recognize all of its major sponsors and a cheque will be presented by Affinity Credit Union to be utilized towards the COV program.

We would ask members of the media to be there between 7:30 and 8:30 pm for the announcement and presentations. Please rsvp to Alan Long, gm@sntc.ca.
