“The STEMfest 2015 program will bring an exciting range of world class science-themed events and conferences to Saskatoon, and as such, it will help foster the exchange between academics, educators, students and the community,” said David Goncalves, Executive Director of Global STEM States.

Saskatoon was selected because of its demonstrable commitment to a diverse range of science and technology fields and for displaying a keen interest in engaging with the international science community.

About STEMfest 2015 in Saskatoon

STEMfest 2015 will take place over a one and a half week period. The festival will bring together for the first time a host of science-themed conferences and events to Saskatoon, actively engaging with the academic sector, students and the community to advance the interests of science and its education.

STEMfest is themed around “Smart Economic Development - aligning science, technology, engineering and mathematics education to cities’ future human resource needs.”

As the largest city in the province of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon has long had the interest in driving forward both education and industry in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As world leader in developing its own science and technology park, Innovation Place Research Park, Saskatoon has been ahead of the ball in advocating for and providing the space to help grow many different diverse fields related to science, education and industry.

“STEMfest represents another success in Tourism Saskatoon’s pursuit of international convention business that aligns strategically with our city’s strengths, as well as the Federal Trade Strategy,” said Todd Brandt, President and CEO of Tourism Saskatoon.  “Long-standing Saskatoon institutions, such as the University of Saskatchewan and Innovation Place, have put our city on the map as a leader in scientific research and created a legacy within the community. We look forward to welcoming STEM Fest participants to Saskatoon.”
