SASKATOON RECOGNIZED AS PREFERRED CONVENTION AND EVENT DESTINATION BY CANADIAN SOCIETY OF ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVES (CSAE)

December 1, 2008

Saskatoon Recognized as Preferred Convention and Event Destination by Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE)

It was formally announced by “Conventions Saskatoon!” today (a committee of Tourism Saskatoon) that Saskatoon has won the bid to host the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) 2011 Annual General Meeting & Showcase, to be held in Saskatoon September 14 – 17, 2011.

CSAE has a total combined membership of over 2000, with 1,625 executive members who manage Canada’s leading trade, professional, occupational, philanthropic and single or common interest organizations is a goal by destination marketing organizations (DMOs), targeting convention and event business.

Hosting such a large number of national association executives and decision makers affords the opportunity to showcase Saskatoon as a preferred location for their own events and conferences.  “Our “Conventions Saskatoon!” team has been coveting this event for many years,” states Todd Brandt, President & CEO of Tourism Saskatoon. “This win demonstrates that Saskatoon has been successful in building a positive image in the national conventions and events arena. This is truly an exciting time for us, and provides impetus for our marketing efforts to continue to grow Saskatoon as a western convention destination of choice."

The “Conventions Saskatoon!” bid team included members from the Saskatchewan Association Executive Network who played a major role in this endeavour.  Special thanks are extended to Shad Ali (On-Purpose Leadership), Steve Nixon (Saskatoon Weekly Newspaper), and Harry Janzen (Saskatoon Regional Association of Realtors), for their work on this bid.

A host team will be formulated in the near future, drawing from Saskatoon and provincial CSAE and “Conventions Saskatoon!” memberships.  A sales mission team heads to Vancouver to the 2008 CSAE Annual General Meeting in early October to showcase Saskatoon and to promote the 2011 event.
