Saskatoon’s Golfest delivers added value for visitors and residents.
SASKATOON, SK - June 29, 2011 - Saskatoon’s Dakota Dunes Golf Links will play host to the fourth Dakota Dunes Casino Open – a Canadian Professional Golf Tour event – Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10. Tourism Saskatoon is pleased that Isabelle Beisiegel – the first woman to earn a card on a men’s pro tour – will be playing at the Dakota Dunes Casino Open for the first time. A former LPGA player, Beisiegel will compete in Saskatoon with the other Golf Pros for $200,000 in prize money.
Leading up to and running concurrently with the Dakota Dunes Casino Open, Golfest kicks off Monday, July 4 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm with the Conexus Pro Celebrity Drive the River Challenge at River Landing in downtown Saskatoon. Several local celebrities will join a group of Golf Pros to drive golf balls at a target located across the South Saskatchewan River.
The official opening ceremonies of the Dakota Dunes Casino Open will take place Monday, July 4 at 11:30 am at River Landing. A First Nations cultural component will highlight the event. Also at River Landing on Monday, July 4, the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Canadian Tour Tee-Off BBQ. Proceeds raised go to Beads of Courage, a new charity in Saskatchewan for kids facing life-threatening illnesses. An autograph session with the Canadian Tour Pros will wrap up the day’s activities.
Other Golfest activities throughout the week include the Pro Am Tournaments Tuesday July 5 and Wednesday, July 6 plus men’s, women’s, and junior golf clinics throughout the week. A Hole-in-One Competition for a Porsche is open to all amateur golfers and fans of the Canadian Tour, and will take place Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 at the Dakota Dunes Golf Links.
“The Dakota Dunes Golf Links has been rated Saskatchewan’s best, and we’re confident Beisiegel and the other players will enjoy this course,” says JoAnne Wasko, Director of Markets, Advertising & Media with Tourism Saskatoon. “The Saskatoon region’s courses bring in novice to advanced golfers from around the province and beyond. We’re very proud of what we have to offer them.”
