SASKATOON, SK – Saskatoon Sports Tourism and the Saskatoon Royals Hockey Club are excited to announce that Saskatoon will host the Keystone Cup Western Canadian Junior B Hockey Championship from April 19 to 22, 2012.
“The Saskatoon Royals are thrilled to be hosting the 2012 Keystone Cup Western Canadian Junior B Championship,” said Robert Renneberg, general manager of the Saskatoon Royals. “We are excited for our community to come out and enjoy a weekend of hockey that displays the high level of talent we have here in Western Canada.”
The Keystone Cup will feature the champions of 12 hockey leagues from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. The 2012 event marks the second time the tournament has been held in Saskatoon. The city previously hosted the tournament in 1988 and saw the Warman Valley Crusaders crowned as champions. All 17 games of the tournament will be held at Harold Latrace Arena.
The Saskatoon Royals won the championship in 2007 and are hoping to win again in 2012 in front of a hometown crowd.
“The Keystone Cup is coming to Saskatoon, and we would love to see our community out in full force, showcasing our trademark Saskatchewan hospitality,” said Renneberg. “We look forward to hosting an exciting tournament.”
