Champ de Mars: A Story of War
By Pierre-Michel Tremblay
Translated by Paula Wing
March 21 to April 1, 2012
In the Backstage Stage (a Bill and Brett Wilson Project)
What if you return from war critically wounded, but your injuries are all in your head? What if all you see is honey dipped Timbits getting tossed like grenades? Eric is trapped in the terrifying landscape of Kandahar, despite the fact that he’s back in Canada. In the critically acclaimed drama by Pierre-Michel Tremblay, Persephone Theatre will blow apart everything you think you know about modern warfare and idealism.
This will be the first production of Champ de Mars to take on cross-gender casting. Local pillar of the arts community Cynthia Dyck plays the Sergeant, the absurd and hyper-aggressive subject of Eric’s postwar hallucinations. She joins cast members Bruce McKay, Ed Mendez, Jaron Francis and Kathleen Duborg in a hard hitting production helmed by Persephone’s Artistic Director Del Surjik. Come to the Deep End and find out why it’s a whole lot easier to go to war than it is to come back.
