Director, Finance, and Operations

Contract Term – 18 months to 2 Years with the potential of full-time permanent

Tourism Saskatoon is seeking an experienced professional who is passionate about Saskatoon to join our team as our Director, Finance and Operations.

As the internationally-accredited destination management organization for Saskatoon, we market and manage Saskatoon’s authentic experiences at home and around the world. By telling the story of our city, we inspire people around the world to visit. Working as our Director, Finance and Operations, you will drive strategic leadership in Saskatoon’s tourism sector to generate impactful, aligned tourism experiences and partnerships that provide compelling invitations to travel to and within Saskatoon.

Position Summary:

As the Director, Finance, and Operations you will provide key leadership within the organization for destination-wide operations and financial management, helping to position Tourism Saskatoon as a corporate leader in sustainable, regenerative, and circular development.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director, Finance, and Operations is an integral role to Tourism Saskatoon with the ultimate responsibility of ensuring all financial, legal, human resources, governance practices, and strategic priorities are delivered upon, in alignment with the strategic objectives and vision, mission, and mandate of the organization. You will work with the Integrated Leadership Team to implement financial processes that ensure team literacy and organizational strength. You have a passion for entrepreneurial operations with a strong background in financial management. This position may manage another finance team member in the future.

Education:

A relevant university degree, with a specialization in business administration, finance, or accounting. A professional accounting designation is required. Advanced knowledge and experience in the Destination and Tourism industry is an asset.

Experience:

A minimum of five years progressive experience in a senior leadership and management role directly related to finance and operations in an organization of comparable size and similar industry.

Working closely with the CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Finance:

  • Create business partnerships with key investors in the private and public sectors
  • Provide strategic leadership on financial and human resources, and governance to the Tourism Saskatoon team, including the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Oversee and facilitate third-party audits and contractor procurement to support leadership
  • Work across organizational lines to create annual and multi-year plans and associated budgets (operating and capital) in alignment with Tourism Saskatoon’s strategic plans and overall mandate
  • Collaborate on organizational grant initiatives to align with the strategic plan, overall mandate, and current programs and projects
  • Day-to-day accounting for multi-departmental organization.
  • Prepare detailed annual budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor cash flows and prepares cash flow projections, including the use of deferred revenues.
  • Develop, prepare, and present monthly financial reporting packages, which include a comprehensive budget to actual variance analysis and reporting on key performance indicators.
  • Continuously assess the efficiency and effectiveness of internal procedures within the finance department. Provide recommendations and implementation for process improvement strategies.
  • Prepare and process accurate semi-monthly payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with multiple funding contracts and appropriate accounting and reports of the same.
  • Ensure all accounts payables and accounts receivable are reconciled and kept current monthly.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory authorities, including accurate and timely remittances of all payroll and sales taxes.
  • Liaise with the Organization’s Auditors and Financial Planner to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Administration and monthly reconciliation of the Organization’s group insurance and RRSP plans and wellness program.

Operations:

  • Guide and ensure adherence to existing and developing changes in organizational policy and practices, while staying informed about best practices and lawful changes
  • Facilitate, implement, and report on national projects funded by external sources
  • Ensure the Integrated Leadership Team embodies Tourism Saskatoon’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion strategies alongside the LGBTQ2S destination strategy
  • Assist members in overcoming regulatory challenges and provide pathfinding for funding opportunities
  • Coach leadership to maximize the accounting technology so budgets and cash flows support organization excellence with ease
  • Assist in establishing ROI calculations within each business in line with Tourism Saskatoon strategic objectives
  • Represent Tourism Saskatoon on senior industry committees
  • Administer programs, policies, and systems that support employee success and satisfaction, and contribute to Tourism Saskatoon’s overall effectiveness
  • Where required, act in the CEO’s absence

Industry Involvement & Innovation:

  • Support CEO in securing corporate support and investments that fuel development projects and priorities
  • Foster relationships and partnerships to support and enhance Tourism Saskatoon’s strategic priorities
  • Lead, attend, present, represent and engage internally and externally on boards, committees, and working groups where appropriate
  • Assis in leading and implementing the Destination Sustainability plan based on Tourism Saskatoon’s Decade of Action Plan, including social and environmental stewardship and industry collaborations
  • Ensure plans consider emerging trends, reflect the needs of key collaborators and funding partners, and are responsive to environmental changes

  • This position is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
  • Employment Status: Full time, contract
  • This position is on-site in our downtown Saskatoon
  • A parking spot is included
  • Expect regular travel to meet with members and clients within the project, along with national and possibly international marketplaces
