Morning

Start your day with a visit to the Remai Modern, Saskatoon's premier destination for contemporary art. Perched on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, this architectural marvel houses a world-class collection of artwork that spans genres and mediums, from paintings and sculptures to multimedia installations. Take your time exploring the gallery, which holds in trust more than 8,000 artworks from the year 1900 to present day!

While you’re in the area, don't miss the chance to stroll along River Landing and take a look at the various public art pieces on display against the backdrop of the beautiful South Saskatchewan.

Midday

Once midday hits, it’s time to venture into one of Saskatoon's most vibrant neighborhoods and discover some of the city's hidden artistic gems. Wander through the historic streets of Nutana, where charming heritage homes and quaint storefronts provide the perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll. Pop into some of the local art galleries and boutiques along Broadway Avenue, where you'll find a treasure trove of unique artworks and handcrafted goods created by Saskatoon's talented artisans. My personal favourite spots to visit are the neighbouring storefronts Wanuskewin Gift Shop and Awasis Boutique. They showcase some absolutely stunning Indigenous art and handicrafts, and the staff are always ready to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Afterwards, head across the street to the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery. This dynamic space displays the work of Saskatchewan's finest craft artists, offering a diverse range of ceramics, textiles, glassware, and more. It’s always a joy walk through the gallery and marvel at the skill and craftsmanship that defines Saskatchewan's rich craft tradition! Check out their website to see what art exhibition is currently showing.

Afternoon

As the day winds down, it’s time to dive into Saskatoon’s vibrant street art scene. Start downtown where you can take a self-guided street art tour to see some of the most spectacular large scale murals our city has to offer. Personal favourites include the various artists’ work on display on the Drinkle building’s exterior, and the piece “Rise by the water” by artist Emmanuel Jarus on the First Nations Bank of Canada building. There's also two new beautiful art pieces across from Midtown Mall on the corner of 1st Avenue South and 20th Street East. Kent Ness's mural depicts two Plains Cree riders on horseback, one gazing back at the past while the other looks toward a brighter future, while Josh Jacobson's vibrant mural of prairie lilies celebrates Saskatchewan's cultural heritage and history.

If you haven’t quite had enough of your “Art Lover’s” day by this point, head over to the lively Riversdale Neighbourhood. Here you can take yourself on a self guided tour of the eclectic mix of street art along 20th Street West. Each of the murals are a perfect representation of the diversity and energy of the neighbourhood. And finally, why not try your own hand at creative expression by taking a class at Christina’s Art & Soul Studio? What better way to end a day filled with the excitement and joy of Saskatoon’s well-established art scene.
