Held annually in Saskatoon, the Nutrien Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan is back June 1 - 4 in Kinsmen Park for the 2023 event. Bring the whole family and take in the 4 days of art, education, and fun via the festival’s extensive programming geared towards children ages 2-12. Read on for some of my top picks for exploring this year’s Nutrien Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan.

Check out some of the exciting new spaces, performers, and activities on offer this year! The Big Top Tent features Gustavo the Impossiblist and theatre performances by Dufflebag Theatre. Varying programming is available at the Rainbow Tent from Drag Queen Storytime to colourful and fun inclusive performances. The Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society present an Intro to Old Time Rhythm and Dance 30-minute workshop for circle-style dance and games - fun for all ages! And don’t miss the Robo-Hockey by IEEE where children can learn coding and robotics concepts via a robot hockey game with 4-6 wireless robots competing in the arena.

Insider Tip: Tickets are $10 for attendees aged 2 and up and free for children under 2 and they grant access to everything there is on offer that day! Nothing requires additional payment except if you choose to purchase something from the on-site food and beverage vendors.

There is so much on offer at the festival (see the festival schedule here) and the best strategy is to plan your day around what piques your interest. Crowd favourites include the Critters & Creatures area, the Blue Sky Stage shows, and the Big Top Tent shows. The festival offers a Free Sunset Party featuring festival performers in Kinsmen Park on Saturday June 3 from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm (no ticket or payment is required for entry).

Extra extra: Though the in-person festival is the highlight annual event, virtual content is available from the festival to share inclusive, educational, and entertaining programming with children who may be unable to attend the Saskatoon-based event. Best for children ages 2-12 and free of charge via the festival’s YouTube channel !

The festival is proud to showcase a mix of local and non-local talent. This year’s highlight performers include GRAMMY-nominated artist Aaron Nigel Smith, Treehouse TV stars Splash‘N Boots, and world-renowned Hoop Dancer Terrance Littletent. The Blue Sky Main Stage and Big Top Tent are the spots to check out to catch these performers and more!

Explore the city: Continue your adventure in the city beyond the festival with some of our other fun summer activities to explore in and around the city of Saskatoon.
