In conjunction with her exhibition, Source, artist Sara Cwynar has paired her recent cinematic trilogy with a selection of films. Each of her short works will be followed by a feature-length film that has helped shape her distinctive visual language while shedding light on the filmmaking process.
Cover Girl is a Technicolor musical comedy starring Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly. The film tells the story of a chorus girl given a chance at stardom when she is offered an opportunity to be a highly paid cover girl. The film was directed by Charles Vidor, and was one of the most popular musicals of the war years. Primarily a showcase for Rita Hayworth, the film features lavish costumes, exceptional choreography, and music by Jerome Kern and Ira Gershwin.
