Saskatooning – (verb) feeling the beating heart of Saskatoon through historical and modern culture, our breathtaking nature, or ground-breaking arts. The spirit of Saskatooning is to share passion for our City with others around us.
That’s right, we are introducing a new cruise series, designed to dig deeper into Saskatoon and the Meewasin Valley.
All cruises on our 4:00 pm sailing on Sunday afternoons this spring. We’ll bring them back this fall as well!
May 15th – Alive with Art – The South Saskatchewan features many things but one that gets less attention is the volume of public art. It contributes to the beauty that is an integral component to our city’s very special Meewasin Valley. Join us with Alejandro Romero, City of Saskatoon Public Art Consultant, as he points out and explains the many masterpieces visible from the Prairie Lily and the perspective the river provides on the art.
May 22 and June 12 – The 1908 Wreck of the SS City of Medicine Hat –Larger than life, eccentric Captain Horatio Ross, owner of the SS City of Medicine Hat and only Captain to have had a nautical disaster in Saskatchewan, returns to Saskatoon to explain his side of the story and why that bridge took out his ship!
May 29th Saskatoon History with City of Saskatoon Archivist, Jeff O’Brien– Well known throughout Saskatoon, Jeff O’Brien knows everything about what is not well known throughout Saskatoon. We are pleased to welcome his wealth of knowledge to talk about Saskatoon’s colourful history as seen from the water.
June 5th – Naturally Saskatoon– The Meewasin Valley is the most iconic area of Saskatoon and The Prairie Lily is the best vantage point to see and learn about flora and fauna who call it home. Samantha Cowan with the Meewasin Valley Authority is joining us for a short overview of Meewasin and she’ll be joined by a Meewasin Interpreter to dive into the river’s birds, fish, animals and the nature that surrounds them. Perfect plans for World Environment Day and to learn more about this amazing natural space!
