Let’s take a moment to brag, shall we? Not only is Saskatoon really good at brewing beer, starting new restaurants and basically over-achieving at everything else a good modern city should excel at, we’re also the best at hockey. At least half of all babies born here learn to skate before walking, and it’s even become mandatory for preschool tots to perfect the slap-shot before moving on to kindergarten. (By mandatory we mean if they want to.)
While we don’t have an NHL team to rally behind, we’ve sent our fair share of hometown heroes on to the NHL or the Olympics. To get our sweet sweet hockey fix locally, hockey fans here support the Saskatoon Blades, a Western Hockey League team that plays fast-paced, hard-hitting games at SaskTel Centre. It’s common to see kids and teens in the stands who have shown up after their own minor league game to cheer on the big guys. Now that’s dedication and passion!
Even the NHL can’t resist the magnetic appeal of Saskatoon ice. Preseason games are often played here to sold out prairie crowds.
