EDMONTON, AB - April 2, 2014 - Saskatoon Sports Tourism is proud to announce Cameco was today awarded the 2014 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance's (CSTA) Sport Event Sponsor of the Year PRESTIGE Award at the CSTA Sport Events Congress in Edmonton, AB. Cameco was named a finalist in the category for their involvement in the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
The 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup was held in Saskatoon from May 16 to 26, 2013, and saw the Halifax Mooseheads defeat the Portland Winterhawks to win the franchise's first ever Memorial Cup championship. The event in Saskatoon achieved the fourth-highest attendance total in the history of the event, with 82,503 spectators heading out to Credit Union Centre over the course of the tournament. As the premier local sponsor of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup, Cameco was instrumental to the tournament's success, providing sponsorship, host committee support and volunteers.
